I've decided to pick up this project again for the summer. I pulled my Razz out of the shed and rode it around the neighborhood, I love the weed eater smell. The bike is small and light weight, perfect for a project. I'll dig up my notes, and see what I can find. Stay tuned.
Edit: I just found a link to a programmable ignition box. The bidding is over, but perhaps this may work.

So whats up? Any luck tuning the scoot?
No, I haven't found anything that indicates the exact problem. I'm keeping my eye on this project though. When I find something, I'll post it here.
"The Razz lacked a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and instead got just a single speed transmission. As a result, modifying a Razz to go faster is hard because you need to do something about the gearing. In its stock form, the Razz tops out around 30-35mph. Yamaha also sold a moped legal version (SH50M) of the Razz that was limited to about 25mph."-http://www.motorscooterguide.net/page2/page24/page24.html i think the 99' razz i got have the sh50m version. fastest i can go is on flat is 25-28 mph. i think attempting to make it faster is hopeless. it does however has almost 7,500 mis. on it. but it run perfect. i'd like to make it go the speedometer limit (40) on flat.
i hope you get this but what if one were to mod his stock cdi insted of buying a new one i doubt anyone has takn apart theres im going to do a trail and error on this i have some pics if you want them
Get a 60cc kit along with a cdi coil. Get a racing mufler upgrade the jets and it will do 48mph on a flat
Any update to this post? It's been a long time and inquiring minds want to know!
Hey anonymous, I'm "Apollo" that commented some years ago. Amazing I still get emails about this. Long story short, I was never able to make any significant headway and eventually just bought a motorcycle. Honda Shadow 600 was a good step up.
Greate pieces. Keep posting such kind of information on your site. Im really impressed by your blog.
Hey there, You have performed an incredible job. I'll certainly digg it and personally suggest to my friends. I am confident they'll be benefited from this website.
